What Are 2D and 3D Shapes?
A 2D shape is flat. You can only see it from the front. It has length and width. A 3D shape is solid. You can pick it up and hold it. It has length, width, and height.
🔍 Why is this useful? Knowing the difference helps us describe the world around us, from a piece of paper (2D) to a toy block (3D)!
How to Tell Them Apart
- Look at it: Can you see all of it at once? If yes, it's probably 2D.
- Touch it: Can you pick it up and feel its sides? If yes, it's 3D.
- Think about its sides: 2D shapes are like drawings. 3D shapes are like boxes and balls.
Examples
Example 1: The Circle and The Sphere
A circle is 2D. It's flat like a pancake 🥞. A sphere is 3D. It's round like a baseball ⚾.
