What is this? Money combinations help us figure out different ways to make the same amount using coins and bills. This is useful when you're buying things and need to pay with the coins you have!
How to Solve Money Problems
- Start with the largest coins first (quarters)
- Count how many of each coin you need
- Make sure your total matches the amount needed
- Try different combinations!
Examples
Example 1: Make 50¢
Way 1: 2 quarters = 25¢ + 25¢ = 50¢
Way 2: 5 dimes = 10¢ + 10¢ + 10¢ + 10¢ + 10¢ = 50¢
Way 3: 1 quarter + 2 dimes + 1 nickel = 25¢ + 20¢ + 5¢ = 50¢
Example 2: Make 75¢
Way 1: 3 quarters = 25¢ + 25¢ + 25¢ = 75¢
Way 2: 2 quarters + 2 dimes + 1 nickel = 50¢ + 20¢ + 5¢ = 75¢
⚠️ Common Mistakes
- Mixing up nickel (5¢) and dime (10¢) values
