Let's Count to 10! 🎯

What is Counting?

Counting is saying numbers in order to find out how many objects are in a group. We use it every day to know how many cookies we have, how many friends are playing, or how many crayons are in our box!

How to Count

  1. Point to the first object.
  2. Say "one" as you point to it.
  3. Move to the next object and say "two".
  4. Keep going! Say one number for each object.
  5. The last number you say is the total.

Let's Try Some Examples!

Example 1: Counting Apples 🍎🍎🍎

Point and say: "One... two... three!" The last number is 3. There are 3 apples.

Example 2: Counting Balls ⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽

Point and say: "One, two, three, four, five!" The last number is 5. There are 5 balls.

Watch Out! Common Mistakes

Don't go too fast! If you say "one, two, three" quickly, you might point to only two balls. Make sure each object gets its own number.

Don't skip objects! Sometimes we miss one. Point to each thing carefully.

Don't count some twice! Keep track of which ones you've already counted.

Super Counter Tips

Touch it! Physically touch each object as you count it.

Move it! Slide each object to a new pile after you count it.

Line them up! It's easier to count when objects are in a straight line.

Sing the numbers! 🎵 "One, two, three, four, five..."

Time to Practice!

  • Count your toys as you put them away.
  • Count the steps as you walk upstairs.
  • Ask a grown-up to give you a small group of buttons or cereal pieces to count.
  • Draw circles on paper and count them.

Remember: Practice makes perfect! You'll be a counting expert in no time! 🌟

The answer is 8.

3 10 - 5 = ?

Hint: Start with the first number and count backwards the number of times shown by the second number.

Show the answer

Answer: 5

  1. Understand the operation. The minus sign means we are subtracting 5 from 10. Subtraction means taking away a certain number from another number.
  2. Count back method. We begin at 10 and count backwards 5 steps: 10 → 9 (1 step back) 9 → 8 (2 steps back) 8 → 7 (3 steps back) 7 → 6 (4 steps back) 6 → 5 (5 steps back) We end at 5.
  3. Verify using addition. Subtraction is the inverse of addition. If 10 - 5 = ?, then ? + 5 should equal 10. We know 5 + 5 = 10, so ? must be 5.
  4. Conclusion. 10 - 5 = 5 Final answer: 5

We start with the problem: 10 - 5 = ?

4 10 - 4 = ?

Hint: Start with the first number and count backwards the amount shown after the minus sign.

Show the answer

Answer: 6

  1. Understand the operation. We are subtracting 4 from 10. This means we take away 4 from 10.
  2. Count down method. Begin at 10 and count down 4 steps: 10 → 9 (1 step down) 9 → 8 (2 steps down) 8 → 7 (3 steps down) 7 → 6 (4 steps down) We end at 6.
  3. Check with addition. If 10 - 4 = ?, then ? + 4 should equal 10. We know 6 + 4 = 10,
  4. Conclusion. 10 - 4 = 6

We start with the problem: 10 - 4 so the answer is correct.
