๐ต Let's Find Shapes! ๐บ
We are learning to name flat shapes we see everywhere! This helps us describe the world around us, like a round clock or a square window.
How to Find and Name a Shape
- Look at the shape. Is it round? Does it have pointy corners?
- Count the sides. How many straight lines does it have?
- Count the corners. How many pointy parts are there?
- Say its name! Use what you counted to find the right name.
Let's Look at Some Shapes!
Example 1: The Circle ๐ต
Look! This shape is round and smooth. It has zero straight sides and zero pointy corners. This is a circle!
Example 2: The Square โผ๏ธ
Let's count! It has 4 sides that are all the same length. It has 4 corners. This is a square!
Example 3: The Triangle ๐บ
Let's count! It has 3 sides. It has 3 corners. This is a triangle!
Watch Out! ๐ฏ
Mistake: Calling a rectangle a square.
How to Avoid It: A square has all four sides the same. A rectangle has two long sides and two short sides. Check all the sides!
Fun Ways to Remember! ๐ต
- "A circle goes round and round, no corners can be found!"
- "Tri- means three!" A tricycle has 3 wheels, and a triangle has 3 sides!
- Go on a Shape Hunt around your room. How many circles, squares, and triangles can you find?
Time to Practice! โ๏ธ
- Draw your favorite shape and tell a grown-up its name.
- Use play-dough or clay to make a circle, a square, and a triangle.
- Look at a book and point to all the rectangles you can find on the pages.
